The clients acquired two adjacent units in an existing high-rise with sweeping lake and city views. They came with the request to combine the units seamlessly into one unit and make it accessible for future aging in place. A new floor plan was developed to improve the entry sequence, beginning with a view to the lake upon entering that floods the unit with natural light. Opening the once compartmentalized floor plans allows for sweeping views of both the lake and city. Custom millwork and cased openings defi ne separate areas. Circulation galleries link private spaces to public spaces, allowing maximum circulation and privacy for the residents. In the study and master suite, openings between spaces are pushed to the exterior wall to maximize views through doors and windows. Bathrooms, kitchen, and support spaces are all designed to allow for maximum accessibility. Subtle detailing unifies the space, while a warm, neutral color palette creates a serene light-filled space.
